Legacy Demo Release
...Natsume died.
FallDown's Prologue begins outside of a church, with an unspecified point-of-view character asking an unnamed old woman if someone has passed away. She answers: they're holding a funeral for a boy called Natsume. The protagonist mentions they may have known Natsume, although they seem unsure. The old woman suggests that the protagonist bring some flowers for Natsume, confident that he would appreciate it.
The protagonist steels their nerves and heads for the church, only to end up bumping into someone. This mini-scene is randomized, and it is possible to meet any of the four main characters of FallDown here: Kikuchi Ryou, Toujou Minato, Morichika Haruki, or Suou Keito.
Bumping into Kikuchi Ryou
The Protagonist apologizes to Ryou, then internally notes his short height and his strong glare. Ryou says nothing and leaves the Protagonist to wonder if he's made him upset. He bows in apology, but Ryou simply walks past without a word.
Bumping into Toujou Minato
The Protagonist apologizes to Minato, who apologizes right back and takes the blame. Minato does a small bow before hurrying away. The Protagonist notes that the sound of his voice makes it sound like he'd been crying.
Bumping into Morichika Haruki
The Protagonist apologizes to Haruki, who clicks his tongue and says nothing. The Protagonist expresses silent shock at his rude attitude.
Bumping into Suou Keito
The Protagonist apologizes to Keito, who offers a mutual apology. They find it surprising how youthful Keito's face is compared to the initial adult impression given by his large back, and they note that Keito is "a head taller than most people." Keito must stand out no matter what. Keito parts ways with them, and the Protagonist seems disappointed.
A solemn atmosphere hung heavy in the air as I stepped into the church.
We cut between the Funeral Four's quiet reactions as they grieve. The Protagonist hopes that they are all remembering Natsume, then looks around, trying to decide where to sit. The player is given four choices which correspond to the selected FallDown route that will continue after the Prologue.
Take a seat on the right
This choice leads the Protagonist to sit next to Kikuchi Ryou and selects FD: Kikuchi Ryou as the player's route.
Take a seat on the left
This choice leads the Protagonist to sit next to Toujou Minato and selects FD: Toujou Minato as the player's route.
Take a seat deeper in
This choice leads the Protagonist to sit next to Morichika Haruki and selects FD: Morichika Haruki as the player's route.
Take a seat close to the exit
This choice leads the Protagonist to sit next to Suou Keito and selects FD: Suou Keito as the player's route.
The funeral procession begins, and Natsume's coffin is brought forward so attendants can offer flowers. Each of the Funeral Four make their offerings, and the player has the choice to pay attention each time or skip past the mini-scene. This choice does not affect the FallDown route selection.
I am curious
Finding myself somewhat curious about him, I decided to follow him with my gaze.
The Protagonist notes the sense of character he sees in each funeral attendee as they offer flowers to the coffin. Kikuchi Ryou approaches with a straightforward gaze and chooses to say nothing, but his "strong will" can be seen in his amber eyes. Toujou Minato approaches with "snow-white flowers" that fit his put-together appearance, and the Protagonist is charmed as he leans down to place his flowers. Minato returns to his seat with his head hanging lower than before. Morichika Haruki approaches with an "intense gaze" as he ruffles his hair, and despite his rough body language, his handling of the white flowers is surprisingly gentle. The Protagonist describes Haruki as "melancholic" in this moment, and finds themself in awe of the contrast. Suou Keito approaches, and his height once again makes him stand out amongst the crowd. His demeanor paints him as "someone with a noble, righteous soul," and his grief is sincere. Keito mutters Natsume's name quietly.
Think nothing of it
This choice skips the mini-scenes.
The funeral comes to a close as Natsume's family says a few words.
Surrounded by people leaving the hall, I...
Casually look around.
Stay put.

2023 Demo Release
There are several notable changes, both narratively and mechanically, in the updated demo released in October 2023 to reflect the final version of the game.
